The Digital England team is a cross-disciplinary team of editorial digital specialists within BBC News. The team brings together online journalists in News and Sport, social media, live and audience specialists and a local data journalism unit – all providing digital coverage of the best stories from across the country.
We are looking for two experienced Senior Broadcast Journalists to join the core England news online team based in Birmingham, providing editorial oversight and direction for our network of digital journalists.
We are looking for experienced journalists to join the core team of Senior Broadcast Journalists, responsible for ensuring our news, features, live streams, video and social media output reflects the BBC's reputation for world class journalism, bringing local stories to an international audience.
You will assess the daily output from around England, assign tasks to journalists, commission stories and features, sub-edit and publish journalists' work, manage the England news index and liaise with other BBC departments and sections of the website.
Please note: These are shift roles working early/day/late patterns across a 24-hour newsdesk. One of the roles will include one week (4 shifts) of nights every month
You will have significant experience in daily news journalism, possibly gained from a copy or newspaper background, proven writing ability, an instinct for strong visuals, good IT skills and a clear vision of how to translate stories into lively multimedia material.
You will need sound editorial judgement and the ability to manage material and editorial input from other areas of the BBC. You will need an excellent understanding of both the BBC News website as well as excellent communication and leadership skills.
