Job Title: Apprentice Clerical Officer

Directorate: Integrated Community Services Division

Service: Community Single Point of Access Service

Hours: 37.5 hours per week covering various shift patterns from 08.00am to 5.00pm over 7 days, 365 days a year ( candidates must be able to be flexible with their start and finish times as required to cover the service). Advanced notice of your roster is provided to you.



In accordance with eligibility criteria for government funded apprenticeship schemes applicants must be aged 16 or over and have been resident in the UK / EU for the last 3 years. Applicants must not have a degree, level 4 qualification or above or already be in any form of formal government funded education. You must also have a good standard of education, with English and Maths GCSE at grade A-C.


About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to gain valuable experience within the NHS and achieve a nationally recognised qualification. We are looking for an individual with excellent verbal and written communication skills. You should be able to work as part of a team and have a pleasant manner. You will be supported and developed in the role, learning new skills, whilst undertaking the apprenticeship framework Customer Service through a local training provider.

We are looking for someone with who is highly motivated, caring, and empathetic, forward thinking, enjoys a challenge, and can adapt to change in this very fast paced service.

The Single Point of Access Service is the first point of contact for patient’s transition from hospital to Community Adult Services.

Some of the general duties within the office include (the list is not exhaustive):

• Managing both inbound and outbound phone calls
• Relying accurate messages to clinicians vie electronic systems
• Processing patient referrals
• Waiting list management
• Booking clinic appointments
• Processing DNA’s
• Producing patient letters

You will receive daily support from the team and a full induction to the office. Successful completion of this 12 month fix term post will then place you in an ideal position to continue your career. We will support you with job applications and interview technique’s.
Successfully shortlisted applicants will be invited to visit the office, prior to interview to meet the team at Waters Meeting Health Centre.
